Tribute: Orval Dean Crosier was born in Basin, Big Horn County, Wyo., to Marion Orval and Hazel Dean (Patterson) Crosier. In 1944, he graduated from Basin High School. In April 1944, he entered the Navy and served as a radioman aboard PV Ventura, a twin-engine torpedo bomber, patrolling the Aleutian Islands between Alaska and Russia.

In 1951, Mr. Crosier graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. In 1957, he earned his master’s degree in education administration from Colorado State College, now the University of Northern Colorado.

On July 27, 1950, he married Margaret Ann Ruff in Driggs, Idaho. She died in 1989.
Mr. Crosier started his teaching career in Gilcrest in 1951 as a math teacher and coach. In 1958, he and his family moved to Riddle, Ore., where he continued to teach and coach until 1963.

In 1965, Mr. Crosier became principal of Valley High School, a position he held for 18 years. He became principal of Burlington High School in 1984 and retired in 1991.

He was a member of the Gilcrest Lions Club and the Elks Club and served as Gilcrest mayor. He was a member of the Gilcrest Baptist Church.

Mr. Crosier died of lung cancer at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado inpatient unit, Greeley.

Survivors: His son and wife, Brian and Joann of Kersey; his daughter and her husband, Krisstie and Tony Kondrotis of Ashburn, Va.; four grandchildren, Daniel Crosier of Aurora, Kendra Crosier of Las Vegas, Kari Armitage and her husband Nick of Thornton and Kacie Kondrotis of Ashburn.

Preceded in death by: His wife; his parents; his brother, Robert Vern; and his sister, Esther May.
