BELLINGHAM, WASH. (October 8, 2008) – After the sold out news last week about Bluewater’s latest horror title; BARTHOLOMEW OF THE SCISSORS, Bluewater along with Comic Evolution will be running a 2nd print. The 2nd printing will feature a brand new cover by artist Daniel Crosier. The book will be available for purchase only through Comic Evolution and their website (http://www.comic-evolution.com/). This print run will be limited to 500 copies.

“We over printed this book and we could not refill the reorders. This book is unique, nobody has ever seen a comic done with the wood burning medium,” said publisher Darren G. Davis. ” We wanted to tie in a retailer for a promotion for this printing. Comic Evolution is an amazing store and Chuck is a marketing machine, so it was the perfect fit.

Owner of Comic Evolution, Puyallup, Washington Chuck Messinger said, “We at Comic Evolution and the folks over at Bluewater Productions have developed a wonderful cross-promotional relationship in the last year. While promoting Bartholomew of the Scissors both by word of mouth and through the front page of our website we generated so much interested in our area that the book sold out immediately statewide; then sold out just days later nationwide. Being a huge fan of Chad and Daniel’s, we approached Bluewater about doing a second printing. Darren at Bluewater offered to make it a Comic Evolution exclusive which we could not pass up.

In our first year we have done some amazing things and developed so many relationships that we were nominated as one of the Best Comic Book Stores in Western Washington. The final result is not in but we are very confident that no matter where we place our customers have spread their satisfaction. What better way to celebrate this event than to have our very own variant cover to what has become a tremendously popular title with our customers.”

Artist Daniel Crosier added, “I’m really fortunate to be a part of a project that is so greatly supported Chuck. He is great advocate for the independent comic book scene and a patron of the arts. I really appreciate his enthusiasm for the Bartholomew series.”

Crosier has burst onto the scene in the past year and has developed a watershed wood burning technique for his books that has the industry talking.

“The book is called BATHOLOMEW OF THE SCISSORS and it looks to be a comic book experience that is truly unique. The artist, Daniel Crosier, draws with a wood burner and the pages are actually burned into the wood giving it a creepily antique-like look. Written by Chad Helder, this bizarre horror miniseries will be in stores September 24th.”- Ain’t It Cool News.com

“Crosier’s style, wood burning, is not only undeniably unique in form, but an inspired method for bringing out Helder’s haunting demonic otherworld.”- Horror’s Not Dead.com

Crosier is also the writer and illustrator on select “Vincent Price Presents” titles from Bluewater Productions, and will be the creator of the upcoming series “Distortions Unlimited Presents” in conjunction with Greeley based horror animatronics company, Distortions Unlimited.

Gentilcore’s artwork and the series are based off of properties produced by legendary filmmaker Ray Harryhausen, and has been endorsed by industry pro’s.

“Mysterious Island is a great story and very unique with it’s handling of all things Harryhausen with respect to the original Verne concept. Oh and don’t forget the monsters! Fans won’t be disappointed!”- Brokenfrontier.com

BELLINGHAM, WASH. (October 8, 2008) – Bluewater Productions announced this week their latest horror title; BARTHOLOMEW OF THE SCISSORS issue #1 has completely sold out.

This unique title has a cutting edge style of art - wood burning. Daniel Crosier produced the art and Chad Helder writes the series.

This classic horror tale is described as; Spectral Phantasms have invaded our world. These ghostly creatures from another dimension occupy the human brain and endow their host with spectacular paranormal abilities. Private investigator Gordon Watt, long aware of the spectral phantasms, investigates a bizarre series of scissor-murders. With the help of a powerful psychic named Jessica, Gordon soon discovers a connection between the phantasms and the mystery of a vengeful, undead boy named Bartholomew. But humanity faces a greater threat: the White Blob emerges from the abyss to colonize pockets of human society. Gordon and Jessica must enlist the help of Bartholomew and the hideous power of his Scissor Swarm or face assimilation by the growing colony of the White Blob.

There are currently no plans to go back for a second printing for BARTHOLOMEW OF THE SCISSORS #1. Fans are encouraged to visit their comic shop and pre-order their favorite BWP books before it’s too late! Bluewater is close to selling out of their “Vincent Price Presents” title. Jason Schultz BWP Vice-President says, “We did a huge overprint on Vincent Price and we are almost sold out of issue #1”.

“People are impressed with this title. I get more questions on how Daniel Crosier did the art on this title. I have seen the original art and yes they are done of panels on wood – it is inane but cool at the same time.” said BWP Managing Editor Darren G. Davis. “It just goes to show that you don’t have to be mainstream to reach the market. Readers just want great stories with great art, and if you can deliver that to them, they’ll come back for more every month.”

For more information on Bluewater Productions, visit them online at their all-new, recently redesigned Web site (http://www.bluewatercomics.com), or check them out in your local comic book shop!

Bluewater Productions this week published the first issue of Bartholomew of the Scissors, a new monthly comic by Chad Helder and Daniel Crosier. What makes this comic unique is the artist’s technique: it’s neither drawn or computer-illustrated, but rather wood burned. Artist Daniel Crosier cut 88 pine panels for the four-volume series, explaining “my gallery illustration work has taken a turn to drawing on wood, steel, and other materials for composition. I wanted to take that concept and use the wood burning technique to expand on visual dialogue for the series.” The art does also make use of traditional materials (graphite, paint marker, colored pencil, and ink), but wood burning is the predominant approach to the art and storytelling.

Crosier’s technique was to 1) cut the wood into 8.5″ x 11″ panels; 2) use graphite, a wood burning tool, and a paint pen to create the art; 3) scan the wood panels (the sap from the burned portion of the pine panels reflects in the light of the scanner, giving it “a rich, unique tone against the grain”); 4) send to Bluewater for lettering. Following publication of the comics, he intends to show the panels in galleries and museums. He has displayed the covers at some conventions, but plans to keep all the pieces together.

Writer Chad Helder said “The best part about creating comic books is the collaboration with artists: pencilers, inkers, colorists, letterers, and in this case wood-burners. Daniel’s illustrations bring entirely new dimensions to the story. The characters have really grown and flourished through Daniel’s graphic interpretations of their faces and actions—especially Bartholomew, who has become a very frightening little boy.”

Oh, and the story? “Spectral Phantasms have invaded our world. These ghostly creatures from another dimension occupy the human brain and endow their host with spectacular paranormal abilities. Private investigator Gordon Watt, long-aware of the spectral phantasms, investigates a bizarre series of scissor-murders. With the help of a powerful psychic named Jessica, Gordon soon discovers a connection between the phantasms and the mystery of a vengeful, undead boy named Bartholomew. But humanity faces a greater threat: the White Blob emerges from the abyss to colonize pockets of human society. Gordon and Jessica must enlist the help of Bartholomew and the hideous power of his Scissor Swarm or face assimilation by the growing colony of the White Blob.”
