Local Celebrities Team Up To Sign Distortions Unlimited #1 at ComicFest

Denver, CO- Distortions Unlimited #1 comic book, published by Bluewater Comics, creator Daniel Crosier teams up with KBPI’s Uncle Nasty, Matt Need, and Distortions Unlimited founder Ed Edmunds to sign at ComicFest. The signing takes place on Sunday April 18th, at 11am at the Hilton Garden Inn Denver Tech Center.

The Distortions Unlimited comic book series is based off of licensed characters crafted by world -renowned Distortions Unlimited in Greeley, CO.

Distortions is internationally known for creating shocking props, masks and animatronics that have been the mainstay of the dark amusement industry for the last 30 years. The company is best known for reproducing the 16ft queen alien from the film “Aliens” cast from the original molds, as well as designing the stage props for music industry icon Alice Cooper’s Brutal Planet tour.

Crosier explains his motivation to translate Distortions characters into a comic book series. “I grew up near Ed Edmund’s Distortions Unlimited studio in Greeley. I used to tour the studio when I was a kid and was fascinated by their creations. I was inspired by the characters and believed they would translate really well into a comic book series due to their diversity and mythos. My challenge was to create an effective horror genre storyline that seamless incorporated the diverse catalog of characters.”

DISTORTIONS UNLIMITED #1 is a good old-fashioned horror tale. Crosier is both behind the words and art. The story is evolves around chaos that follows a group of miners in Brazil. Under suspicious circumstances, mummified bodies of some miners are discovered. Something in the dark mine mummified these men, something not known.

Crosier based many of the characters likenesses in the series off of local Denver celebrities. Top ranking radio personalities from KBPI’s Uncle Nasty and Matt Need likeness are used. Crosier met the on air duo when they took an interest in Crosier’s wood-burned comic work. Crosier was featured on their show on multiple occasions.

Distortions Unlimited #1 is receiving rave reviews from industry critics. Web giant Ain’t it Cool News describes the book, “What works with DISTORTIONS UNLIMITED is the foreboding sense of dread that permeates every panel. Crosier isn’t afraid to make his panels dark. He’s got a great sense of pacing too. There are a few scenes where a character is staring into darkness that are paced perfectly and make the hairs on your neck stand on end.”

Distortions Unlimited #1 will be available for purchase at the show. However, the entire panel will be available one day only to sign copies and answer questions at ComicFest.

ComicFest is located at the Hilton Garden Inn at 7675 East Union Avenue, Denver, CO 80237. For more information visit www.denvercomicfest.com or www.thothengine.net.

Crosier has gained recent media attention for his watershed wood burning comic illustration technique for the nationally published series, Bartholomew of the Scissors.

Among a myriad of ongoing projects, Crosier has turned his attention and talents to hooking the attention of a big fish in a big pond, or swamp.

Crosier’s primary objective is to get on the radar of the editors at DC Comics, via a submission of their iconic character, Swap Thing.

Swamp Thing, a half man, half salad hybrid, translated well to Crosier’s organic wood burned approach.

“The wood burning technique is a clutter buster,” states Crosier. “Anything that stands out in this extremely competitive industry is an edge. Burning Swamp Thing on wood just made sense.”

Crosier will approach DC with a five page Swamp Thing submission at Emerald City ComiCon in Seattle in April of 2009.
